Day 15--Houlton, Maine

Day 15, Saturday, June 26, 2010
Randolph, VT, to Houlton, ME

402 miles

After breakfast of toast and jam, we left the Grant’s house at 8 am. We packed the car and locked up their house only to have Suz discover that she’d left her camera battery in the house. She found a way in through a window, and then we were off at 8 am.

We stopped at a covered bridge and took pix and then had a drink and a piece of coffee cake at the country store across the street. These were the only photos, other than one of a moose sign, that I took this day.
This bridge is a rebuilt one on a private lane; there was a gate in the center that swung across to keep the farmer's livestock in

After our stop, the ride out of Vermont and through a small bit of NH and onto 95 N was quite monotonous. We ended up in Houlton, Maine, just across the border from New Brunswick. I was too tired to drive the planned final 100 miles to Fredericton. Stayed in the Shiretown Inn & Suites at $96 a night, and though it was so-so, it was warm and comfortable. We’re finally far enough north to make me pull out my blue jeans and long-sleeved tops.
